HDTV Ratings: October 26

HD dramas Underbelly: Razor and The Borgias continue to languish for viewers, with last night’s episodes drawing fewer than 4% of TV3’s target audience, 25-54 year-olds.

The former was down from last week’s low of 4%, to 3.6%, while the latter barely improved from 3.5% to 3.7%.

It’s amazing TV3 is tolerating these ratings. Continuing with both series in primetime signals either good faith with the viewers who have been following these serialised dramas or the absence of anything better with which to fill their slots.

Underbelly: Razor’s weakness and TV One’s strategy of repeating the premiere of Winners and Losers on Saturday, where it rated a surprisingly sprightly 5% of 25-54s, helped the Nothing Trivial successor to rebound, with episode two rating 8.2% (compared to 6.3% the previous week).

HD lead-out Harry’s Law also has stabilised, with 7.6% of 25-54s – and that was in the face of TV2’s stand-up special, Allan Carr: Tooth Fairy Live, pulling twice as many viewers as predecessor Charlie’s Angels.

Last night also saw the return of HD drama V, but off-peak at 10.30, where the premiere drew 2.4%-2.8% of key demographics but only 1.6% of the viewers TV2 targets, 18-39 year-olds (10.7% of whom had been watching Allan Carr).

Does the fact that I TiVo The Borgias and watch it later count in the ratings? I thought not.

  2. No, but it will next year, when NZ ratings will take time-shifting into account.

  3. Thanx for that, Philip. About time, too.
