Hot Off the Press Release: TVNZ OnDemand Streams Ahead
TVNZ OnDemand has clocked up more than 100 million streams in the past year, with soap operas being the shows most in-demand.
Shortland Street had nearly two-and-a-half times as many streams as its closest rival, Home and Away, while Coronation Street was the year’s third most-streamed programme.
Also in the top 10 were different series of Love Island and the most popular comedies were The Big Bang Theory and spin-off Young Sheldon.
The most watched drama was Wentworth.

TVNZ ONDEMAND HITS OVER 100 MILLION STREAMS IN ONE YEAR!
TVNZ OnDemand has seen over 102 million streams in the last 12 months. This is equal to every New Zealander streaming over 20 OnDemand episodes a year!
Viewers are consuming a huge variety of shows from soaps to comedies to reality series. Shortland Street is TVNZ OnDemand’s biggest programme, reaching 279,756 viewers with over 13 million streams recorded in FY2018. Blockbuster shows Home and Away and Coronation Street are also among the most streamed programmes.
Entertainment reality shows have also been popular with Love Island Australia and Love Island UK featuring in the top 10. With tears, tantrums and love triangles galore, the addictive show reached over 100,000 viewers for each series. The ever-popular cooking genre also came through with Masterchef Australia making it into the top ten most watched TVNZ OnDemand shows.
Sheldon Cooper brought the laughs with Young Sheldon and The Big Bang Theory being the most watched comedy shows.
Exclusive titles are also hooking new viewers, with Gloriavale: The Return, Killing Eve and Anika Moa Unleashed all amongst the top 20 most streamed shows.
TVNZ OnDemand’s audience reach and total streams continue to grow month on month, as more content and exclusive titles are added.

Average weekly streams have grown 163% YOY.
Average time spent on site is 1 hour 47 min.
June saw 465,000 18-54 viewers, with close to 300,000 coming in every week resulting in 67% growth YOY.
The 13+ demo saw 590,000 users in June with 360,000 coming back each week.
51% of all 18-24 year olds in NZ have used OD in the last 3 months and 25% used it for every week in June. This is a 95% YOY growth for reach and 233% YOY growth for streams!

Whilst TVNZ OnDemand is great for instant access TV, and binging whole seasons, I do still have one niggle. On recorded Freeview, you can zap through the adverts, unfortunately the same cannot be said for streaming. Yes, there might be one RELATIVELY short advert, but my god they are still annoying … and you cant even zap them on either!
