Hot Off the Press Release: Sky Aces Wimbledon Deal

Sky TV has signed a multi-year deal for exclusive Wimbledon coverage.

Coverage will include the Wimbledon World Feed live and in full, with additional feeds on Sky Go and “selected content” that can be accessed for free.

Here’s the media release:

“The Championships, Wimbledon”, “The Wimbledon Championships” or simply “Wimbledon” – whatever you choose to call this legendary event, the 2021 tournament will be live, in gleaming colour and available exclusively on Sky Sport.

The Sky Sport team is delighted to announce the world’s most prestigious tennis event is coming home in a multi-year deal.

Sophie Moloney, Sky CEO says, “This classic and legendary tournament draws New Zealanders in every year – celebrating tradition and excellence. I’m delighted to say Wimbledon will be live on Sky Sport for 2021 and beyond.

“We always set out to secure the very best sporting content for our valued customers.  To have Wimbledon on the board is a fantastic win for our team and we can’t wait to bring it back.”

Mick Desmond, Commercial & Media Director at The All England Lawn Tennis Club, says, “We are delighted to partner with Sky Sport, and we know they will do an exceptional job of showcasing all the action from The Championships, Wimbledon to tennis fans in New Zealand across the fortnight.”

For the first time since World War II, Wimbledon was cancelled this year due to the effects of the global pandemic, but Wimbledon 2021 is scheduled to run from GMT 28 June to 11 July.

Coverage will include the Wimbledon World Feed live and in full, with additional supplementary feeds to be made available on Sky Go. In addition Sky will be making selected content available free to access throughout the tournament.

Moloney says, “It’s great to finish the year with some good news like this.

“Meanwhile, we’re encouraging our team and our partners to get a decent rest over the break as there is so much on offer in 2021 including the Sky Super Rugby competitions, the ANZ premiership, the NRL, Supercars, acres of golf and the Olympics – just some of the incredible premium sports on Sky Sport.”
