Hot Off the Press Release: SoHo to Screen Fear the Walking Dead

Sky TV has just announced it will premiere Fear The Walking Dead on SoHo on August 24 and screen it later on Prime.

Kiwis eagerly awaiting AMC’s brand new drama, Fear the Walking Dead, will be able to watch it the same day as US fans when this companion series to the horror drama television series The Walking Dead comes to SoHo this month, in conjunction with international distributor Entertainment One (eOne).
“The Walking Dead is the most watched drama in the US so having this companion show is a huge programming coup for us,” said Sky’s Director of entertainment programming Travis Dunbar.
“As well as a fantastic cast, the production crew is incredible and the quality of what the producers brought to the production The Walking Dead is more than evident in the stunning footage we have seen so far.
“We are chuffed to be able to bring the most globally anticipated show of the year, starring our own Cliff Curtis, as quickly as possible to our customers.
“SoHo is renowned for quality, cutting-edge content and Fear The Walking Dead is a terrific addition to our schedule offering even further value for our subscribers.”
The series will air on Monday nights on SoHo at 8.30pm beginning on August 24.
Living in the same universe as The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead is a gritty drama that explores the onset of the undead apocalypse through the lens of a fractured family.
Set in a city where people come to escape, shield secrets, and bury their pasts, a mysterious outbreak threatens to disrupt what little stability high school guidance counselor Madison Clark (Kim Dickens) and English teacher Travis Manawa (Cliff Curtis) have managed to assemble.
The everyday pressure of blending two families while dealing with resentful, escapist, and strung out children takes a back seat when society begins to break down.
A forced evolution, a necessary survival of the fittest takes hold, and our dysfunctional family must either reinvent themselves or embrace their darker histories.
Fear the Walking Dead is executive produced by Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, Greg Nicotero, David Alpert and showrunner David Erickson and produced by AMC Studios.
The series stars Kim Dickens as Madison, Cliff Curtis as Travis, Frank Dillane as Nick, Alycia Debnam-Carey as Alicia, Elizabeth Rodriguez as Liza, Ruben Blades as Daniel, Mercedes Mason as Ofelia and Lorenzo James Henrie as Chris.
“Through Fear The Walking Dead we are able to explore the darker, more dangerous and terrifying days before The Walking Dead,” Robert Kirkman explains. “A time where ignorance of the world around you is more likely to get you killed than anything else.”
“This, combined with the challenges that our dysfunctional family faces regardless to what’s going on around them further heighten this story of the disintegration of society – it’s going to be a hell of a ride,” added David Erickson.
For fans who want to relive every creepy moment of the first four seasons of The Walking Dead prior can do so right now on Neon.
Fear The Walking Dead will also screen free-to-air on Prime and be available online at Neon later this year. Further details on timing will be released in due course.

I find it weird that it’s not on The Zone, surely that’s where it should be 🙂
I agree Trevor. It seems most peculiar. Perhaps Sky’s paid a higher premium for the rights than it typically does for Zone fare and wants a return from the double pay wall that SoHo delivers.
The Walking Dead has always played on TV2. So why should SoHo or Prime have all the rights to Fear the Walking Dead when The Walking Dead is due back in a couple of weeks on TV2?
Interesting that Fear the Walking Dead will get an outing on Prime. Sky must see an opportunity in having premium content air free to air. I also see that Prime is advertising the latest season of Game of Thrones will air this August instead of next year as it usually does.
Thanks for your observations, Leo. I think the Prime/FTWD crossover has as much to do with amortising content costs as scheduling strategies. Re GoT : it’s already aired on SoHo and can be viewed via Neon, so Sky’s exhausted its premium value and Prime would have looked really ridiculous had it held off S5 until next year.
Your right, Philip, it does make sense to maximise as much as possible with premium content and Sky’s utilising its many platforms for its benefit. Yes, they would have looked ridiculous, glad common sense has prevailed for GoT. Maybe the next step would be Prime HD.
