Hot Off the Press Release: Spidercam Comes to Sky Sport

Sky is setting up a dedicated Spidercam channel for ground-breaking coverage of this weekend’s All Blacks and Black Ferns games.

THE AMAZING SPIDERCAM – A NEW WAY TO WATCH THE GAME

Sky Sport is excited to announce that it will be offering rugby fans an alternative, gravity-defying way to watch the Black Ferns and All Blacks play this Saturday, with the option to enjoy both test matches via a live dedicated Spidercam channel!

Watch these two huge test matches like never before as the Sky Spidercam dips and dives above Eden Park capturing all of the thrilling action. The new viewing experience will be available to Sky rugby fans on channel 50 and will feature commentary as well as a scoreboard.

Rugby fans that want to take their viewing experience to the next level will have the ability to use their Sky Go account as a second screen to watch Spidercam while also enjoying the live action on Sky Sport 1.

Sky Head of Sport Production, Brian Hitchcock says: “Spidercam provides our viewers with some incredible footage so we’ve decided to make this camera feed available to Sky Sport rugby fans for these two test matches. For us, it’s about innovating and providing the best possible viewing experience to our customers.”

The introduction of a dedicated live Spidercam channel comes hot on the heels of Sky Sport introducing its alternative te reo commentary and closed captioning for the remaining Sky produced All Blacks and Black Ferns matches in 2019.

WHAT IS SPIDERCAM?

Spidercam is a cable suspended camera system able to cover large areas. Its four winches can move a dolly (camera transport platform) in three axes (3D-movement), allowing stationary or moving camera shots from almost any angle and position within a predetermined area, in this case, Eden Park. The operation of Spidercam is weather dependent.

WHEN DOES THE SPIDERCAM COVERAGE BEGIN?

• Black Ferns v Wallaroos – Spidercam coverage will begin from 4.50pm Saturday 17 August on Sky channel 50.
• All Blacks v Wallabies – Spidercam coverage will begin from 7.25pm, Saturday 17 August on Sky channel 50.
