House Rules’ Premiere a Flop

Three’s House Rules NZ did anything but for its season premiere on Sunday, when it was badly beaten in the core commercial demographic by Harry Potter on TVNZ 2 and Sunday on TVNZ 1.

House Rules drew roughly a third of the 25-54 viewership of its 7.30 rivals, averaging 32,127 for a 1.57 rating/7.24 share, after streaming first on ThreeNow.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I averaged 90,482 viewers (4.41 rating/23.84 share) and Sunday, 101,455 (4.64 rating/23.72 share).

House Rules shed more than 20,000 viewers off the back of the season premiere of Bondi Rescue (53,143, 2.59 rating/12.84 share).

But TVNZ 1’s Hyundai Country Calendar drew three times as many 25-54 year-olds: 152,788 (7.45 rating/37.23 share).

The only programme that drew more viewers was 1 News (172,515, 8.41 rating/46.63 share), which crushed Newshub Live at 6pm (84,544, 4.12 rating/20.12 share).

TVNZ 1’s dominance led to the season premiere of George Clarke’s Remarkable Renovations averaging 62,842 adults (3.06 rating/21.11 share) opposite Three’s network movie premiere of Muru: 16,061 viewers (0.78 rating/7.22 rating).

As a result, Three had a catastrophic night, averaging a peak demo share of just 12.58 vs 31.34 for TVNZ 1 and 20.62 for TVNZ 2.

All three major networks struggled against Sky Sport on Saturday, when Three came out on top with a 13.81 demo share vs 12.01 for TVNZ 1 and 9.94 for TVNZ 2.

Three got a huge lift from its obscure family movie, A Dog’s Way Home, averaging 48,916 adults to score an impressive 2.38 rating/15.63 share.

TVNZ 1’s Tipping Points: Lucky Stars could muster only 27,629 viewers (1.35 rating/7.72 share) and the premiere of Gino’s Italy, 20,669 (1.01 rating/7.32 share).

TVNZ 2’s Jurassic Park averaged 38,378 viewers (1.87 rating/11.37 share) whereas lead-out Jackass Presents Bad Grandpa drew 20,754 (1.01 rating/6.76 share) and Three’s Venom, 20,995 (1.02 rating/10.06 share).

TVNZ 1’s comedy binge was another disaster, with Black Ops averaging just 18,117 (0.88 rating/7.68 share).
