Is Netflix Price Hike-Proof?
On the eve of Netflix reporting its first Q1 earnings release without quarterly subscriber figures, Parrot Analytics Streaming Metrics data shows Netflix enjoying industry‑leading low churn even after significant price increases.
It believes investors will be convinced that the shift to financial‑metric focus is paying off.
Why is Netflix uniquely positioned to hike prices without a subscriber exodus?
Because of market‑leading demand and competitive pricing, Parrot Analytics says.
It cites how Netflix’s total catalogue demand in the US outpaces every stand-alone rival and delivers more demand per dollar: “an irresistible value proposition”.
Parrot Analytics even thinks there’s room for more price increases.
Using US rates, it says before the $2.50/month price increase in January, Netflix was cheaper than Disney+, despite offering nearly double the catalogue demand.
“That ‘cushion’ is one reason our model estimates the price hike only nudged US churn up by ~10 basis points.”
Lastly, while many platforms see spikes in cancellations after a rate increase, Netflix’s churn rates are lower than major competitors across other regions.
