Lanterns Soon to Light Up HBO Max

As the countdown to the June 16 launch of HBO Max continues, the streamer has released a new teaser for its latest DC Studios series, Lanterns.

It reveals a first look at Laura Linney’s casting alongside Kyle Chandler, Aaron Pierre, Kelly Macdonald and Garret Dillahunt.

Chandler and Pierre play intergalactic cops who are drawn into a dark, Earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.

The pilot was written by series co-creators Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof and Tom King.

The first two episodes were directed by Slow Horses’ James Hawes, with Stephen Williams, Geeta Vasant Patel and Alik Sakharov helming the rest.

Lanterns premieres August 17.

Disney+ will stream a decade-in-the-making documentary about drumming legend Travis Barker from August 13 — two months after its world premiere at the Tribeca Festival.

Travis Barker: Louder Than Fear is billed as “a raw and redemptive portrait” of the musician following his near-death in a plane crash. Reads the blurb:

Once a trash collector in Laguna Beach, his life changed when he stepped in as a replacement for Blink-182’s drummer — igniting a meteoric rise that would make him the driving pulse of a generation. Yet beneath the spectacle of fame, the film reveals a complex man battling pain, grief and the thin line between survival and surrender. Featuring appearances from collaborators, cultural icons and those closest to him. This is the story of the man behind the tattoos. A tribute to those who keep going when the music almost stops.

Apple TV today renewed BAFTA-nominated Knife Edge: Chasing Michelin Stars for a second season.

The series follows the fates of elite chefs at some of the world’s most unique and celebrated restaurants to determine if they will win, maintain or lose that precious Star.

“Now, more than ever restaurants around the world are under enormous pressure to not just strive for perfection, but to survive,” executive producer Gordon Ramsay says.

“The economic tolls of an industry struggling, means the stakes have never been so high. With globally evolving dining standards, Knife Edge reveals the stress, the pressure, the resilience needed to hold your nerve in the battle for greatness, it’s honestly brutal.

“Personally, I continue to be so proud of the passion in our industry – the drive and ambition in those hungry newcomers, the rising talents and those indomitable chefs all continuing to push for Michelin’s exacting recognition.”

Apple TV’s also renewed Margo’s Got Money Troubles for a second season while Prime Video has released a new trailer for Spider-Noir, which premieres on May 27 (Variety’s already dubbed it “a beautiful bore“).
