Last Jedi First Star Wars on 4K-UHD

Expect Star Wars: The Last Jedi to become the first in the franchise to be released on 4K-UHD.

Disney has yet to confirm this but online retailers are taking pre-orders for the title on the format (as well as Blu-ray and 3D Blu-ray).

There’s no date yet but it’s likely to land in time for Easter.

Disney was the last studio to hold out on 4K-UHD until Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2.

It followed this with Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and Cars 3 (but not in NZ) and is planning more, including Thor: Ragnarok and possibly earlier Star Wars instalments, starting with A New Hope.

The Last Jedi has grossed nearly $US495 million worldwide so far and in New Zealand scored the second highest opening weekend of all time (it was pipped by The Force Awakens), with a four-day gross of $3.134 million, reports the Motion Picture Distributors Assoication.
