Lightbox Premieres in December
Lightbox highlights in December include the season five double-episode premiere of Vikings (which it will stream exclusively), Scandi-noir newcomer Aber Bergen and the first comedy Seth Rogen’s produced for TV.
The 13-episode Future Man is a humorous sci-fi homage that went live earlier this month on Hulu.
It stars Josh Hutcherson as a janitor by day and a gamer by night who’s recruited by mysterious visitors to travel through time to prevent the extinction of humanity.
Reviews ranged from “a foul-mouthed yet unrelentlessly clever delight” (TV Guide) to “a conventional sitcom, despite the projectile vomiting and relentless penis jokes” (New York Times).
Season one of Aber Bergen, a Nordic courtroom drama, already has screened on Sky’s Rialto Channel, but only in SD, and Lightbox has committed to streaming the second season early next year.
Lightbox will also premiere season two of Jorskott, which is set two years after the Swedish original (The Guardian dubbed it a “fairy tale-noir monster mash-up” and “an eco-friendly journey into a heart of darkness where parental anguish is a constant”).
Other highlights include both seasons of the stunning Shakespearian dramatisations, The Hollow Crown, seasons one and two of About a Boy and SGU: Stargate Universe and the self-explanatory Best Bars in America.
Streaming in order of their appearance:
- Vikings S5 (weekly from December 1)
- Jorskott S2 (December 5)
- SGU (December 12)
- Best Bars in America (December 13)
- The Hollow Crown (December 19)
- Future Man (December 20)
- Aber Bergen (December 21)
- About a Boy (December 26)
- Dracula (December 27).

Guess we (I) will have to wait for season 5 of The Americans until next year then. Bugger.
