Lion King Roars On to Blu-ray in 3D

Disney’s The Lion King will be released worldwide on Blu-ray on October 12, two weeks after it’s re-released theatrically in 3D.

The Diamond Edition Blu-ray will be available in 2D and 3D versions.

Features will include picture and sound enhancements, and interactive and bonus content, including a new set of animated bloopers.

It will be The Lion King’s first release on disc since 2004 and the first time since then that it’s been out in any media.

The Lion King is the best-selling home entertainment release of all time — and this is The Lion King like never before,” Bob Chapek, president of distribution, The Walt Disney Studios, said today in a statement.

“The all-new 3D format immerses viewers in the epic settings and puts them face-to-face with these beloved characters.”

Disney’s next Diamond Edition of an animated classic will be Alice in Wonderland, on June 29.

3D re-release? Dunno why they are even bothering, Lion King is one of Disney’s weakest films.
