Magnetic Pictures Celebrates NZ Web Fest Nominations for K’ Road Chronicles and Breaking Silence
Magnetic Pictures is proud to share that two of its acclaimed documentary series, K’ Road Chronicles and Breaking Silence, have been recognised with a total of seven nominations at the 2025 NZ Web Fest Awards to be held this Sunday.
The TP+ original series K’ Road Chronicles is nominated for Best Factual Series, Best Director (Ella Wells), Best Editor (Brendon Chan) and Best Host (Six). Breaking Silence is nominated for Best Director (Karen MacKenzie), Best Editor (Chris Davis) and Best Host (Simonne Butler).
K’ Road Chronicles offers a raw, compassionate look at life on Auckland’s Karangahape Road and beyond, seen through the eyes of Six, a journalist and former rough sleeper who brings empathy and insight to stories of homelessness and survival.
Breaking Silence , fronted by Simonne Butler, herself the survivor of horrific abuse, challenges our nation’s shocking rates of domestic violence. The series reveals the many faces of abuse, confronts hard truths, while championing the courage of survivors.
K’ Road Chronicles and Breaking Silence are funded by NZ On Air, and we would like to acknowledge their amazing support over four seasons of these critical series, which give voice to our subjects. These nominations honour the strength of those who have entrusted us to tell their stories with dignity and respect.
Magnetic Pictures extends its heartfelt thanks to TP+ (the digital home of Tagata Pasifika), whose partnership and platform support have been instrumental in bringing these stories to audiences across Aotearoa.
TP+ founder Ngaire Fuata says, “We’re really proud to have K’ Road Chronicles and Breaking Silence on TP+. These shows tell powerful, real stories that shine a light on different sides of our communities. They bring new voices and perspectives to our Pacific audience.”
Juanita Edwards, Producer of Breaking Silence and co-founder of Magnetic Pictures, says the NZ Web Fest recognition reflects the importance of continuing to tell stories that need to be told.
“Both series share deeply personal, real-life stories that provide an important and seldom-heard mouthpiece for Kiwis underrepresented on our screens. They challenge us, encourage greater understanding and fight for every New Zealander’s right to live a life free from violence, ignorance and neglect.”
Producer of K’ Road Chronicles, Brian Holland, adds: “Both series are about empathy and connection — about looking beyond the headlines to see the humanity in every story. We’re incredibly proud of our production team and thrilled to see our work recognised alongside the best in New Zealand digital content.”
Now in its 11th year, the NZ Web Fest celebrates outstanding achievements across online and digital series production. Keith Barclay, NZ Web Fest Director, says: “Among the international community of web festivals, New Zealand is recognised as a creator of especially strong factual series.
“Breaking Silence and K’ Road Chronicles are both major contributors to that reputation.”
