My Sky + … Movies in October
Oscar-winners Gravity and Dallas Buyers Club, a season of John Wayne classics and a BBC dramatisation of Jamaica Inn are among the highlights that make October a hallowed month on Sky Movies.
When the BBC screened Jamaica Inn five months ago, the three-part adaptation was criticised for its “mumbling dialogue and absent plot”.
“Perhaps the whole drama was meant to be interactive,” quipped the Express. “‘Insert own dialogue here.'”
Concurred The Guardian: “If you made it to the final part of Jamaica Inn, congratulations.
“The sound quality problems, which prompted a boiling sea storm of complaints, have made following the series difficult.”
But another Guardian critic argued the “Bodmin-set gothic tale of smuggling, sublimated and not-so-sublimated lust, treachery and corruption was, in its own way, great fun.
“Take one headstrong heroine, add a boggy moorful of secrets, a spot of horse thievery, a devilishly attractive uncle-in-law, gorse-to-gorsebush bedragglement, a dash of murder, an unseen overlord and you’re away.
“It’s Thomas Hardy meets Cold Comfort Farm and I’m not moving til it’s over.”
Also of note in HD for the first time on Sky are the horror romp You’re Next, the James Gandolfini-Julia-Louis Dreyfus charmer Enough Said, and the Meryl Streep-Julia Roberts showcase August: Osage County.
Escape Plan is the pick of the action newcomers while popping up for the first time on the pop-up Family Movies channel are Planes and Turbo.

I know Delivery Man has got bad reviews but I really enjoyed it when I watched it on Blu-ray, it’s rather sweet 🙂
