Napoleon and American Fiction to Stream

Next week Apple TV+ and Prime Video subscribers will be able to stream the Oscar-touted Napoleon and American Fiction.

The former streams from March 1 on Apple TV+ and has been nominated for Best Achievement in Visual Effects, Best Achievement in Production Design and Best Achievement in Costume Design.

It stars Joaquin Phoenix as the French emperor and military leader, whose life is viewed through the prism of his addictive and often volatile relationship with his one true love, Josephine (Vanessa Kirby).

Ridley Scott’s epic also was nominated for four BAFTAs, including Outstanding British Film of the Year, but this week didn’t conquer any of the categories.

American Fiction, however, won the Best Adapted Screenplay BAFTA and is nominated in the same Oscar category — as well as for best actor (Jeffrey Wright), best supporting actor (Sterling K Brown) and best movie.

Directed by Cord Jefferson, it stars Wright as a frustrated novelist who’s fed up with the establishment profiting from “Black” entertainment that relies on tired and offensive tropes.

To prove his point, he uses a pen name to write an outlandish “Black” book of his own — one that propels him to the heart of hypocrisy and the madness he claims to disdain.

It streams on Prime Video from February 27.

Napoleon will be available in 4K-UHD and hopefully so will American Fiction.
