Near Masters Disaster for Sky

Rory McIlroy’s near Masters disaster, faltering in the first nine holes on the final day after after leading the tournament for the first three, was mirrored at Sky HQ.
An “issue with the creation of the programming asset” (ie, human error) led to recording of the event cutting out after just a couple of hours.
It affected both the new (white) Sky Box and the older (black) box, and wasn’t resolved for 90 minutes or so.
The boxes stopped recording just as Jason Day and Justin Rose were teeing off, ahead of Sam Burns and Shane Lowry at 2.14pm Augusta time and McIlroy and Cameron Young at 2.25pm.
Recording didn’t resume until after McIlroy had played the first four holes, during which time he slipped two strokes behind Young.
The black box automatically resumed recording but the white box had to be unplugged and rebooted.
In the interim, it wasn’t even possible to catch up by rewinding the live Sky Sport 1 stream on the white box, which displayed the message “schedule unavailable”.
The other feeds — featured groups, Amen Corner, holes 15 & 16 — were unaffected.
Sky says the “human error” occurred when a change to the programme timing in the EPG stopped the recording (as the EPG was incorrect).
“Once this was identified, we fixed the programme timing,” a spokeswoman says. “We do apologise for this mistake.
“We have corrected instant replays available to watch on demand now and will upload a full on demand of the entire event in due course.”
That’s consolation for golf fans about to sit back tonight and watch the main feed that only partly recorded while they were at work.
But for those who started watching the event a couple of hours behind real time, so as to catch up with live coverage of the closing holes, the bungle was as frustrating as [spoiler alert] Rose’s failure to yet again clinch a Masters victory.
