Netflix Launches Lost in Space Reboot
Netflix has ordered a 10-episode reboot of Lost in Space that will premiere on its global streaming service in 2018.
Netflix says the 1960’s sci-fi classic (above) has been “reimagined” by movie screenwriters Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (Dracula Untold, Last Witch Hunter) but will take its cues from the original series.
The Zack Estrin (Prison Break)-produced show will follow the adventures of the Robinson family after they’re stranded light years from their destination.
Among those set to direct is Neil Marshall, who worked on Game of Thrones.
“Equal parts family drama and sci-fi adventure, it is a survival story for the ages,” says the Netflix release and, according to Deadline Hollywood, is “part of a push in the arena of big scale, four-quadrant family entertainment”.
It first reported the prospect of a remake in November.
Lost in Space’s commissioning follows CBS rebooting the original Star Trek for its US streaming platform, CBA AllAccess.
Meanwhile, Lightbox’s Preacher has been renewed for a second, longer season of 13 episodes.
