New David Simon Cop Show Due
HBO has just dropped the trailer for David Simon’s first police drama since the groundbreaking The Wire.
Sky hasn’t yet disclosed when We Own This City will debut here but expect it to be April 26 on Neon, the day of its HBO premiere, and probably April 27 on SoHo.
Like The Wire, City is set in Baltimore but is a limited series about corruption and abuse.
It stars Jon Bernthal (Baby Driver) as the head of “a plainclothes unit that went completely rogue and began hunting and robbing citizens and drug dealers alike as decades of a relentless drug war and mass incarceration in Baltimore spun wildly out of control,” and Wunmi Mosaku (Lovecraft Country) as “an attorney assigned to the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice, which was investigating policing practices in Baltimore prior to the Gun Trace Task Force criminal investigation.”
Jamie Hector, McKinley Belcher III, Darrell Britt-Gibson, Josh Charles, Dagmara Domińczyk, Rob Brown, Don Harvey, David Corenswet, Larry Mitchell, Ian Duff, Delaney Williams and Lucas Van Engen co-star.
Simon (The Plot Against America, The Deuce, Treme) co-created City with long-time collaborator George Pelecanos.
Also new next month on Neon and probably SoHo will be season three of hit-man comedy, Barry, which premieres April 24 in the US. Here’s the trailer:
