Here’s the media release:
Dancing with the Stars NZ waltzes back to Three and ThreeNow this autumn, with more glitz and glamour than ever before. Discovery can today reveal TV and radio personality Clint Randell will join long-time and much loved dancing host Sharyn Casey for the new season. The fun-loving duo will guide viewers through all of the twists, twirls and tears of the live televised dance floor competition.
Following a false start in 2020 and again in 2021 due to COVID-19 restrictions, the highly-anticipated new season of Dancing with the Stars NZ will deliver a much-needed dose of sparkle across Aotearoa. Audiences will delight in following nine celebrity contestants as they make their grand entrance into the famous ballroom to compete for the grand title.
TV and radio personality Sharyn Casey, co-host of The Edge Afternoons, has forged an impressive career in broadcasting spanning over 15 years. Sharyn’s TV credits include hosting several previous seasons of DWTS NZ, the Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards Red Carpet show for six years, multiple live boxing events for Three, and more recently she was on the guessing panel for The Masked Singer NZ.
On returning to the show, Sharyn says: “I’m so excited to get back in the ballroom with our Dancing with the Stars NZ whānau to wow Kiwi audiences with our incredible celebs and judging panel. This will be my fourth season hosting the show and my mate Clint Randell will be joining me this time around, but I promise I will not dance no matter how hard he tries. Dancing with the Stars NZ always brings positive vibes, laughs and fun, so get ready, we think this season is set to be the best yet!”
A man of many talents, Clint Randell burst on to our screens as a fresh faced 21 year old with dreams of winning season three of NZ Idol. His engaging on-screen presence may not have brought an Idol win (he went out eighth), but it did lead to another door opening, as a TV presenter. He went on to appear in shows like Just the Job, Let’s Get Inventin’ and One Night Only. More recently, Clint hosted the hugely popular debut season of The Masked Singer NZ.
Clint is also a familiar voice on airwaves, starting out at Life FM, moving to Mai FM, before going on to host The Edge Breakfast show for six years. You may have also spotted him in his dancing shoes in the 2019 season of Dancing with the Stars NZ, where he placed 3rd.
Clint commented on the upcoming series: “I couldn’t say yes fast enough when I was asked to co-host alongside one of the best in Sharyn Casey. I can’t wait to laugh, cry and cheer alongside Aotearoa with the exceptional talent we have this year, and to perform the special dance Sharyn and I have been working tirelessly on over the summer…”
Executive Producer, Entertainment, John McDonald says it’s been a long time coming: “Through the tumultuous last two years, audiences have actually needed this family favourite show in their lives. Dancing With The Stars NZ is one of those shows that Kiwi families and individuals love to get behind. I’m so proud that we are finally able to make it happen in 2022.”
Dancing With The Stars NZ has raised more than one million dollars in the past two seasons on Three (2018 & 2019), with celebrities aligning with their chosen charity and the public contributing money via text voting or individual contributions. Discovery is also pleased to reveal that Michael Hill Jeweller is returning as broadcast sponsor for the new season.
This season’s show will be filmed under strict red light health and safety protocols in line with current government COVID-19 regulations. Further details regarding the upcoming series of Dancing with the Stars NZ, including its celebrity and judging panel line-up will be announced in the coming weeks.
Dancing with the Stars is a BBC Studios format produced by Discovery. The smash-hit BBC format is licensed to 60 countries, with over 350 series aired around the world to date.
