New Logos But Same Look for Key Sky Channels

Two of Sky’s core channels are changing their names from next month — but they’re not being upgraded to HD to match their shiny new image.

Starting August 1, the History Channel will become Real History and Crime & Investigation, Real Crime.

Both channels will be driven by the same content and will continue to be SD-only.

The rebranding is due to Foxtel in Australia, which owns both services and screens them in HD, updating its channel line-up.

“Foxtel have a broader stable of ‘Real’ channels, and have decided to re-brand these two, to align their channel portfolio,” a Sky spokesperson says.

“Customers will be able to expect the same high quality of crime and history programming under the refreshed ‘Real’ brand.”

  1. Any word on when the new BBC premium drama channel will be launched? IIRC historically 1 September seems to be a BBC launch date …

  2. Nothing new to report, Mike, but Sky in its original media release said the launch would be in October.

  3. Out of the entire Internet, you are the only one that has ever said this news. Sky are really losing its communication aren’t they?

  4. Thanks, Fsmith, but you can’t blame Sky for this one (in fact, they’ve just started to improve their publicity). They alerted media to the rebranding but no one else bothered to pick up on it because they probably deemed it too niche for their readership. That’s where this site tries to provide a point of difference.
