New Season: Bachelor Blockbuster Breaks Aussie Chefs’ Hearts
TV3’s season finale of The Bachelor NZ on Wednesday wooed more viewers than TV2’s My Kitchen Rules.
It averaged 10.78% – 11.1% of the commercial demographics compared to MKR’s 6.8% – 8.9% and even won more 5+ viewers (10.2% vs 6.4%).
The penultimate episode on Tuesday had the edge on MKR in the 25-54 stakes and lost narrowly in the other key demos.
MediaWorks reports TBNZ notched up a cumulative audience of 2.3 million viewers while delivering the broadcaster its highest ever weekly VOD streams — more than 1.3 million total VOD streams — and contributing to 3NOW app downloads topping 600,000.
Wednesday’s final set up TV3 for the rest of the night, even though it could have scheduled a much stronger action movie than Into the Blue off the back off it.
The dated SD movie averaged 4.7% – 5.6% which was enough to win the slot post The Big Bang Theory (7.1% – 8.4%); Bang stablemate 2 Broke Girls averaged 4.8% – 5.9% and won the half-hour only in the 25-54 demo.
TV1’s HD line-up struggled, with Women in Blue (4.2% – 6.3%) and Descent From Disaster (3.2% – 4.4%) finishing third and The Naked Village (1.8% – 3.1%) seesawing with TV2’s Once Upon a Time (1.8% – 2.5%).
TV3’s Bachelor blockbuster helped the network to win the night in the 18-39 and 25-54 demos while just being pipped in the others:
Tuesday’s Bachelor helped TV3 to win the night in the 25-54 race, with lead-out NCIS averaging 4.2% – 5.5% of the key demos against 3.9% – 7.6% for TV2’s How to Get Away With Murder off the back of MKR’s 8.8% – 13.3%.
TV1’s Person of Interest (1.9% – 6.1%) was competitive in the 25-54 and household shoppers-with-kids demos while its 9.30 drama, Unforgettable (1.4% – 4.8%), won the hour with HHS/k and beat TV2’s ailing Grey’s Anatomy (0.9% -2.9%) in the 18-49 and 25-54 stakes.
TV3’s NCIS: Los Angeles (4.0% – 4.8%) won all the key demos except HHS/k.
