RETURN TO THE ARENA ON DECEMBER 6 WITH THE PREMIERE OF NEW ZEALAND FILMED SPARTACUS: HOUSE OF ASHUR ON THREENOW
Filmed in Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland New Zealand, Spartacus: House of Ashur is the next chapter in the legendary world of Spartacus
Auckland – 17 November 2025: More than a decade after the bloody battle on the sands of Capua, Spartacus: House of Ashur, the boldly outrageous gladiator drama – filmed in Auckland – will premiere with two back-to-back episodes and be available to stream weekly on Saturdays beginning December 6 exclusively on Three Now.
Spartacus: House of Ashur is a thrilling, erotic, history-bending, roller-coaster experience that builds on everything that made the original series a colossal hit.
What if Ashur had lived, and the Romans rewarded his treachery with the gladiator school where he once bled?
Welcome to the House of Ashur. No longer a slave, Ashur has clawed his way to power, owning the same ludus that once owned him.
But ruling a band of merciless gladiators is child’s play compared to surviving the savage world of Roman politics – a cutthroat game in which betrayal isn’t a sin, it’s currency.
He flips tradition on its head by unleashing Achillia, a fierce and powerful gladiatrix eager to prove herself worthy in a man’s world. Together, they ignite a new kind of spectacle that shocks, disrupts and offends the elite with every drop of blood.
Nick E. Tarabay (Spartacus, The Expanse), reprises his role as Ashur, joined by Graham McTavish (Outlander, House of the Dragon); Tenika Davis (IT: Welcome to Derry); Jordi Webber (Home and Away); Claudia Black (Farscape, The 100); Jamaica Vaughan (800 Words, Home and Away); Ivana Baquero (Pan’s Labyrinth, The Shannara Chronicles); India Shaw-Smith (Vanity Fair, Supernatural); Jaime Slater (Jupiter’s Legacy, Daredevil); Jackson Gallagher (My Life is Murder, Playing for Keeps); Leigh Gill (Joker, Blitz). The series also features a special guest appearance from Kiwi actor Lucy Lawless, who reprises her role as Lucretia.
Spartacus creator, writer and executive producer, Steven S. DeKnight (Daredevil) serves as showrunner and executive producer.
New Zealand-based Rick Jacobson (Ash vs Evil Dead, Dark City: The Cleaner) and Aaron Helbing (The Flash) also serve as executive producers.
Kiwi producer Chloe Smith (The Power of the Dog, In Dark Places) led a massive local production effort employing at its peak of filming in Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland), 490 full-time crew members and 399 casual crew.
New Zealander’s made up 60% of the ensemble cast and in total extras worked an impressive 9,411 days on set, reflecting the scale and ambition of the production.
Spartacus: House of Ashur is produced by Lionsgate Television for STARZ and is distributed internationally by Lionsgate.
Made with the support of the New Zealand Screen Production Rebate.
