New Supernatural Drama Disappears from AMC+

When’s the witching hour for Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches on AMC+ in NZ?

It was to have streamed from January 5 but now has been removed from the schedule.

“The premiere of Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches on AMC+ has been delayed in New Zealand,” AMC+ publicists said in a programming update. “More information on the new premiere date will be available in the new year.”

It’s not clear why NZ is missing out when US media report “AMC Networks is throwing everything it’s got at Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches.”

According to Deadline Hollywood, “The company will simulcast the series, which is the second in the Rice universe following Interview with a Vampire, across all five of its linear networks as well as streamer AMC+.”

The simulcast will be on AMC, AMC+, BBC America, IFC, SundanceTV, and WE tv onJanuary 8, with streaming to follow four days later on Shudder, Sundance Now, Acorn, and ALLBLK.

So hopefully it will still stream here around the same time but the NZ publicists can’t confirm this.

When I asked if it was being delayed in other markets or just NZ, they replied: “I’m afraid we don’t have any further information at this stage but we’re hoping the team will have an update to share early in the new year.”

In the meantime, there’s still no sign locally of the companion documentary All of Them Witches, which premieres today on AMC+ in the US.

According to the media release, it “examines the provocative history of witch hunts, paganism and voodoo, and challenges the myths that have become the fabric of popular culture”.

Experts interviewed include Pam Grossman, author of Waking the Witch: Reflections on Women, Magic, and Power, practicing witches Bri Luna and Amanda Yates Garcia, and content creator and actor Curly Velasquez.

Sounds like a licensing rights issue. Maybe the rights have already been sold to another NZ broadcaster.

  2. Yes, Mike, I thought that at first, too. And even though AMC is making cutbacks like everyone in the streaming business, it doesn’t make sense to flog off a property that’s part of AMC’s most ambitious new ‘universe’ since TWD.

  3. Actually Mayfair Witches is supposed to start on January 8th, according to AMC+ NZ 🤔

  4. Thanks, Trevor. Where did you see that announcement? I’ve scoured the AMC+ website and Smart TV app and can’t find a reference. I type the title into the search engine and nothing pops up.

  5. Actually it’s been advertised everywhere as January 8th so I assumed it’s the same for New Zealand. But it is weird not seeing the promo on AMC+ as it was on there 🤔

  6. Very ticked off, in NZ Feb now and still no news of Mayfair Witches. Paid a year’s sub and after a few months highlighted on home page still showing Interview with the Vampire and Walking Dead mainly.
Poor show considering all the hype that made me subscribe.

  7. Rightly so, Audrey. AMC+ should be offering a refund based on the misleading publicity about what subscribers could expect to see in 2023. At launch it was a very exciting service, now it’s mostly a back catalogue of also-rans.

  8. This is the reply received when I queried release of MW:

Thank you for contacting AMC+! Thank you for your interest in Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches. We are currently working on the release plans for Mayfair Witches in Australia and New Zealand and hope to have something to share soon ― please stay tuned for updates! Interview with the Vampire, the first series from the Anne Rice Immortal Universe, is currently available to stream exclusively on AMC+ and preparations for Season 2 are underway. Please bear in mind that programming schedules differ by region, so you may see a different content selection or premiere dates referenced on publications made for other countries. If you’re still seeing anything with incorrect information in your region, we would appreciate if you could send a screenshot and link so we can make sure it’s corrected. Thanks for being a fan of AMC+ programming, and please let us know if there’s anything else we can help you with. We’re happy to help recommend other great series or movies you might like!
