New to Acorn TV in August

Acorn TV’s latest sleuth exclusive is a Hallmark series about a group of postal detectives who solve the riddles behind undeliverable letters and packages from years past.

Lost Letter Mysteries stars Eric Mabius (Ugly Betty), as the prim and proper head of the unit, and Kristin Booth (The Kennedys), as the partner who complements his old-school letter hunting with her technological prowess.

Also known as Signed, Sealed and Delivered, the show began in October 2013 as “a backdoor pilot movie on Hallmark and did well enough to get the go-ahead for a weekly TV series,” TV Series Finale reports.

That lasted for 10 episodes, airing from April until June in 2014. Rather than renew it for a second season, Hallmark opted to move Signed, Sealed, Delivered to sister channel Hallmark Movies & Mysteries and has kept it going as a series of movies. To date, there have been 10 movies with the most recent airing in July 2018.

Emma Fielding Mysteries is another Hallmark newcomer, starring Courtney Thorne-Smith (Two and a Half Men, According to Jim) as an archaeologist who moonlights as an amateur sleuth, while The Circuit is an acclaimed Australian drama that ran for two seasons from 2007-2010.

It stars Mystery Road’s Aaron Pederson as a city lawyer who starts life over with the Aboriginal Legal Service, in the remote Kimberley region of northwestern Australia.

Dark Heart is a “quality thriller” from Unforgotten’s Chris Lang that originally streamed on Lightbox and fresh from Sky is The Hatton Garden Heist, a fictionalised true-crime drama starring Timothy Spall and Kenneth Cranham.
