New to Acorn TV in August

Next month Acorn TV will stream the world premiere of an Australian escapist mystery about “grey nomads” trying to find themselves in the middle of nowhere.

Darby & Joan (August 8) stars Bryan Brown as a retired detective who embarks on an epic outback adventure with grieving English widow Greta Scacchi.

Also new will be:

• The Murders (full series from August 1), which stars The Resident’s Jessica Lucas as a rookie detective whose lie of omission about her stolen gun leads to a fellow officer’s death
• Cape Town (full series from August 22), a 2015 adaptation of a Deon Meyer novel about odd-couple cops on the trail of a serial killer.

Other premieres will include Single Handed S2 (August 1), Hustle S3 (August 8), four Gourmet Detective telemovies (August 15), and Emma Fielding Mysteries: More Bitter Than Death and The Tunnel S2 (August 29),
