New to Acorn TV in July
Streaming service Acorn TV adds two NZ exclusives next month, including season nine of Cold Feet.
Previous seasons of the ITV comedy-drama aired on TVNZ but the ratings for the 2016 revival, which began with season six, never rivalled the show’s heyday of 1997-2003.
The latest series went to air in the UK in January and will stream here from July 20.
“These days, it’s a series about fifty-somethings making their way in a changing world,” The Independent observed. “Of course, everything slows down when you’re pushing 60 …
“It’s a curiously uneven watch, and not as much like putting on a comfy old cardy as you’d imagine. But there are some genuinely moving moments.”
The second NZ premiere will be a Danish spin on Midsomer Murders called The Sommerdahl Murders (July 13).
According to the blurb, the Anna Grue adaptation “showcases stunning Danish coastlines and picturesque towns while DCI Dan Sommerdahl, along with best friend and colleague Detective Flemming Torp, solve thrilling murder mysteries.
“However, while Sommerdahl is focused on cracking the case it appears a few things in his personal life also need more attention when a complex love triangle forms between Sommerdahl, Torp and Sommerdahl’s wife.”
Reports Nordic Drama: “Should the series prove to be successful, rights have already been secured to continue with the characters beyond the published novels.”
Other July newcomers will include:
- Sensitive Skin S1
- Girlfriends
- Midsomer Murders S11-12
- Taggart S23-24.
