New to Acorn TV in May
Zut alors! Candice Renoir, a popular French crime drama, at last will make its NZ debut — eight years after it first went to air.
The series, about a former police chief who returns to the force 10 years later, as a divorced mother of four who struggles with new tech and her younger boss, will stream on Acorn TV from May 17.
It’s been a French TV institution since 2013 and has spawned eight seasons.
Star Cécile Bois told Drama Quarterly Candice Renoir is not the story of a policewoman but of a mother who works in the police.
“The showrunners are doing a great job to get the balance between crime and family in the scripts. It’s always in their mind when they’re writing the scenarios. But I also put some of my own background into the character.
“When I feel like an investigation is too powerful, I try to create an atmosphere that shows the mother and woman she can be and play with the complexity of the character.”
Also making their belated NZ debuts next month on Acorn TV will be Amber (May 10) and Clean Break (May 24).
The former is a 2014 Irish thriller about the search for a missing teenager and her disappearance’s impact on her family; the latter is a 2015 drama about a car dealer who, with the bank breathing down his neck, plans a kidnapping to fix his finances and take revenge on those who’ve made his life difficult.
Other highlights will include the global premiere of whodunit procedural Whitstable Pearl (May 24) and:
May 3
- Midsomer Murders S20
- WPC 56 S3
May 10
- Ms. Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries
- Hunted
May 17
- The Hour S2
- Murphy’s Law S4-5
May 31
