New to Amazon Prime Video in June

Next month’s premieres on Amazon Prime Video may leave you questioning the value of your subscription.

It adds 13 seasons of the comedy It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (June 5), S1-8 of Keeping Up With the Kardashians (June 1) and S1-13 of Criminal Minds (June 5).

There’s one movie premiere that should be worth a look, 7500 (June 19), the Joseph Gordon-Levitt thriller about a pilot whose aircraft is hijacked by terrorists (think a Captain Phillips of the air).

Said Variety: “Well-crafted and mostly immersive as experiential cinema, 7500 has enough of a post-9/11, post-United 93 conscience that we aren’t entirely expected to enjoy the ride.” (Watch the trailer here.)

Otherwise, there’s the Rebel Wilson-hosted LOL: Last One Laughing (two episodes weekly from June 19), in which 10 of Australia’s professional comedians will go head to head to see who can keep a straight face while trying to make their opponents laugh in a unique comedy social experiment with a $100,000 prize.     I have only watched the first few seasons on DVD so it will be great seeing the other seasons in HD 🙂

    I’ve only seen the first couple of seasons of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, so I might have to maintain my sub to Amazon a bit longer. I was thinking about cancelling it because I just don’t find enough on there to watch and find the user interface clunky (it shows you a lot of its bargain bin movies or conspiracy docos but not the shows of value it has – case in point, I had to hunt out the APV-produced documentary The Test on the Australian cricket team just after its launch – it wasn’t pushed to me on its front screen). If it was more than $4.99 a month I probably would have quit long ago.

    Yes, Trevor, it was disappointing that TV3 consigned it to Four (I think that was the sister channel then), which meant it went from HD to SD. It’s also had a run on Lightbox and S12 starts Monday on Sky’s Comedy Central.

    Yes, Clint, it can be bit of a challenge to find the gems. But amid the dross you highlight are some fine or at least entertaining series: The Good Fight, Jack Ryan, The Man in the High Castle, Fleabag, Bosch, The Expanse, S1 of Goliath, Jamestown, Lore, The Boys, Carnival Row …

    I still think my Amazon Prime membership at around $NZ190 per year is still good value as it’s a US account and gives me way more movies and TV programme than the NZ version.

    Yes, the guy who directed it Andrew Patterson is going to be as big as Steven Spielberg going by The Vast of Night, especially being his first movie. WOW, what a talent 🙂
