New to Amazon Prime Video in March

As flagged here nine months ago, Amazon Prime Video at last has added the first two seasons of Jamestown to its NZ service.

The Sky 1 series dramatises settler life in 1600s America through the eyes of three women sent to be the wives of men they’d never met and spawned three seasons.

The Telegraph thought the premiere “a little silly. But it was also gripping, and the cast’s enthusiasm was so palpable it was impossible to resist.

“I, for one, want to know more about how these cleverly wrought characters progress with their challenging new lives in the New World.”

Quipped The Guardian:

What hokum, yet what pretty hokum, Jamestown turns out to be … I’m just waiting for the emergence of some cheeky-toothed, doe-eyed beavers, quite possibly animated. For all that, it hits many highs.

Radio Times predicted this “just-plausible-enough period saga from the makers of Downton Abbey … could run and run” and The Times declared: “A bit hokey, then, but the dramatic ground is fertile: gold, tobacco and sorcery are yet to come fully into play.”

Also new to the streamer are The Test: A New Era for Australia’s Team (March 12) and Making the Cut (March 27).

Picking up immediately after the incident in South Africa that led to an outpouring of disappointment and shock around the world, The Test begins with the appointment of Justin Langer as coach and follows the Australian Men’s Cricket Team around the world. (View the official trailer here.)

The fashion designer contest Making the Cut is billed as the “first-ever global and instantly shoppable series”, with limited editions of the winning look from each episode available to buy on Amazon in the “Making the Cut” store.

Here’s the blurb:

The dozen designers featured on Making the Cut will visit three of the world’s fashion capitals – New York, Paris, and Toyko – and face challenges and assignments that will test not only their design skills but also their ability to run all aspects of a business. Judging their looks and industry acumen are some of fashion’s most recognizable and influential names, including Naomi Campbell, Nicole Richie, Joseph Altuzarra, Carine Roitfeld and Chiara Ferragni.

Two new episodes will be released each week, culminating in an April 24 finale. (View the official trailer here.)
