New to AMC+ Etc in August

Premiering in August on AMC+ and Acorn TV are season four of HIP and S8 of Grantchester.

There are eight new episodes of HIP (August 25) and a fifth season aired earlier this year in France.

As well as spawning a hit US version, the original has ‘travelled’ around the globe, with its French broadcaster estimating 280 million people in 105 countries have watched the adventures of the housekeeper with peerless sleuthing skills.

S8 of Grantchester, which has been screening on BBC UKTV, is being released for bingeing from August 18. The BBC recently announced the period whodunit would end with S11; S10 is about to complete its UK run.

Also new to AMC+/Acorn TV is Nelly Knows Mysteries (August 18), a movie-length mystery about an advice columnist who teams with a detective to solve the murder of her childhood friend’s boyfriend.

Exclusive to AMC+ are:

  • S2 of True Crime Story: Smugshot (August 14), which opens with the case of a young Australian couple who disappear on a picnic. Clues point to a satanic cult but an even more absurd motive is revealed, leaving them naked and wandering the outback with a slim chance of survival.
  • S2 of Deb’s House (August 22), which continues music mogul Deb Antney’s quest for the next female R&B superstar. This season, she is backed by an all-star line-up who knows what it takes to make it to the top, including rapper and entrepreneur Waka Flocka Flame, R&B group SWV founder LeLee Lyons and the platinum-selling Keke Wyatt.
  • S1-3 of Small Town Security (August 1), which explores a small, family-run security and private investigation company in Ringgold, Georgia with eccentric clients.

Shudder premieres include All The Gods in the Sky (August 4), Pelican Blood (August 4), I Saw the Face of the Devil (August 11) and Never Have I Ever (August 11) while HIDIVE adds Sword of the Demon Hunter: Kijin Gentosho Cour 2 and Call of the Night.
