New to AMC+ Etc in January

The sole ‘premiere’ next month on AMC+ is The Walking Dead: Dead City, which already has aired on TVNZ 2, can be streamed on TVNZ+ and soon will be released here on Blu-ray.

Adding some value for subscribers is The Last Drive-in With Joe Bob Briggs: The Walking Dead: Dead City Special, which lands the same day (January 24) and has Joe Bob hosting a screening of the premiere (which transplants Negan and Maggie in post-apocalypse Manhattan).

Also ‘new’ to AMC+ is another TVNZ property, the kidult spy series Alex Rider (S1-2, January 15), in which a teenager is unwittingly trained in the craft of espionage.

Premiering on sister service Acorn TV is season two of Crossroads (January 29), the serialised crime drama about a couple searching for the son who disappeared several years earlier.

Otherwise, the only ‘new’ attractions are series that have screened free-to-air: university thriller Cheat (January 8) and Kiwi crime drama The Gulf  (S1-2, January 22).

Coming to Shudder are:

  • Destroy All Neighbours (January 12), about a neurotic musician’s accidental reign of terror, starring Jonah Ray Rodrigues (Mystery Science Theater 3000) and Alex Winter (Bill and Ted franchise)
  • Suitable Flesh (January 26), which stars Heather Graham as a patient-obsessed psychiatrist caught up in the occult.

Shudder’s also adding a slew of library titles: Possession (1981), Tower Block and Homebound (January 1); Swallowed and The Outwaters (January 8); The Passenger and Next Exit (January 15); Sympathy for the Devil (January 18); and The Beta Test (Jan Mary 22).

  1. Being in hospital so long this week I will be getting quite a few groceries, a new Kindle and Disney+ back. My mastercard expired and I couldn’t find my new one so I ordered a new one 😁

  2. Hey Trevor? How are you? Hope all is well and you are making a speedy recovery.
