New to AMC+ in October
Next month’s highlights across the AMC+ platform (including Acorn TV and Shudder) range from two drama premieres to new seasons of Cooper’s Bar, Harry Wild and Creepshow.
The newest of the premieres, Granite Harbour (Acorn TV, October 30), stars Romario Simpson (Andor) and Hannah Donaldson (Shetland) as odd-couple cops: he’s newly recruited from Jamaica’s military police to serve with Police Scotland in Aberdeen and she’s his seasoned partner.
The Guardian dubbed it a “gloriously gloomy whodunnit … [which] hopefully amounts to the final twist on the venerable buddy-cop double act. Every other permutation has been tried.”
Decider’s advice was to skip it: “There was so many directions Granite Harbour could have gone in, which is why its generic story and characters are so disappointing.”
The Chase (Acorn TV, October 16) is set in a backstabbing family-run veterinary practice in Yorkshire.
It dates to 2006 but to my knowledge has never screened here. Two seasons of the Kay (Fat Friends, The Syndicate) Mellor drama were made starring Gaynor Faye, Reece Dinsdale and Keith Barron.
Also new to Acorn TV is S2 of Harry Wild (October 9) while back for fresh seasons on AMC+ are Cooper’s Bar (October 11) and True Crime Story: Citizen Detective (October 12).
Creepshow, earlier seasons of which stream next month on TVNZ+, returns for a S4 binge (October 13) and drag monster superstar contest Boulet Brothers’ Dragula resurfaces for a fifth season (October 31).
New Shudder movies include V/H/S85 (October 6), The Puppetman (October 13), Night of the Hunted (October 20), When Evil Lurks (October 27) and Hell House LLC Origins: The Carmichael Manor (October 30)
Library additions include:
- Two Witches, Hell House LLC: The Director’s Cut, Hell House LLC II: The Abaddon Hotel, Hell House LLC III: Lake of Fire (October 2)
- Dog Soldiers, Night of Fear, Walkabout (October 9)
- Lockdown Tower (October 16)
- Audition (October 23).
