New to Apple TV+ in August

Apple TV+ will follow its biggest-ever weekend premiere — season two of Ted Lasso — with four debuts in August: one new series, two returning series and an award-winning movie.

Mr Corman (August 6), which was made in NZ, was written, directed and produced by its star, Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

He plays a frustrated musician who teaches a fifth-grade class while flatting with an old friend from high school who moves in after his ex-fiancee moves out.

Reads the blurb for the series that will stream weekly: “Darkly funny, oddly beautiful and deeply heartfelt, this relatable comedy-drama speaks for our contemporary generation of 30-somethings – rich with good intentions, poor with student loans and working to become grown-ups sometime before they’re senior citizens.”

CODA (August 13) is a Sundance Grand Jury Prize Award-winning film about the 17-year-old daughter of deaf adults who’s torn between family obligations — interpreting for her parents while working on their struggling fishing boat — and applying to a prestigious music school.

Written and directed by Siân Heder (Tallulah, Little America), it stars Emilia Jones, Marlee Matlin, Troy Kotsur, Daniel Durant, Ferdia Walsh-Peelo and Eugenio Derbez.

Rotten Tomatoes’ critical consensus was it “offers few surprises, but Emilia Jones’ brilliant lead performance brings this coming-of-age story vividly to life”.

Season two of Truth Be Told, the true-crime podcast anthology drama, will stream weekly from August 20.

It introduces Kate Hudson as a media mogul whose lifelong friendship with Olivia Spencer’s podcasting sleuth is tested when the detective embarks on her latest investigation.

Also back for a second season, with a third in the works, will be the sci-fi adventure See (weekly from August 27).

  1. I notice on Twitter Disney have got a new Twitter called The Streamer so whether that’s a new show or perhaps even a new Star no one seems to know. I actually wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up being a new Star as they have so many movies and TV shows. It’s definitely got me intrigued 😁
