New to Blu: April 28 – May 4
Hard on the apocalyptic heels of last week’s 4K-UHD reissues of the Resident Evil franchise comes the 4K-UHD and Blu-ray releases of another fantasy video game from the same team, Monster Hunter.
The Ultra HD Blu-ray release maintains Sony’s high standards, despite a purported upscaled 2K image, delivering visual spectacle even without substance,” AVForums said.
“It’s a tremendous disc … with excellent video and audio and extras ported over to the actual 4K disc itself.”
Echoed HighDef Digest: “The entertainingly bonkers adaptation teleports to Ultra HD equipped with a monstrously gorgeous 4K HDR10 presentation and thunderously awesome Dolby Atmos soundtrack, offering fans and the curious a notable upgrade over its Blu-ray counterpart.”
Even so, Blu-ray.com thought the Blu-ray transfer “first-rate … It’s tack-sharp and effortlessly intricate …
“Although the Blu-ray is given a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless soundtrack rather than the Dolby Atmos presentation accompanying the corresponding UHD release, listeners on this format shouldn’t feel at all short-changed with the comparatively lacking channel selection.”
Other recent Blu-ray releases include back catalogue titles Django Shoots First, Leap of Faith and Bad Boy Bubby.
