New to Blu: August 10-16
Critics may have felt sucker punched by the movie, Sucker Punch, but there were few complaints about its HD authoring on Blu-ray.
“Sucker Punch may fizzle, but its 1080p/AVC-encoded video transfer does no such thing” and is “nearly flawless” while “the English DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio tracks provide great demonstration material”.
Red Riding Hood’s transfer also was viewed as “enchanting” and “stunning … with near-perfect detail, beautiful colour saturation” and “pretty terrific” fidelity.
The Rite apparently has “a few pretty corny CG scenes, but overall this is a great looking transfer for a brand new release” while he 5.1 DTS Master Audio track is “absolutely fantastic”.
The direct-to-disc Carlos the Jackal earned mixed reviews for its transfer. “Overall this is a decent enough visual presentation … but it also seldom shines through as superior video material, and consequently does not quite do the HD format proud”.
But others thought it “a strong high-definition transfer” with “a purposely less-than-natural colour palette”.
Also new this week are Just Go With It, The Firm, Saw: The Final Chapter 3D, Blades of Blood, K-On! Vol 1 (and a limited edition), and Ga-Rei-Zero Collection.
Being dusted off from distributors’ back catalogues are Defiance, Mortal Kombat, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, Point Break and the Millennium Trilogy.

Agree, Sucker Punch is one of the most stupid and offensive movies I’ve ever seen but it sure looks gorgeous on BD.
