New to Blu: August 19 – 25

Yahoo! A posse of John Wayne westerns rides out here on Blu-ray for the first time.

Rio Grande, The Fighting Kentuckian and Dark Command are the latest additions to Shock’s budget label, Hollywood Gold.

Also new for $15 each are Wayne’s Flame of Barbary Coast and Wake of the Red Witch.

None comes with extras but at least it’s a chance to collect on disc vintage movies in HD — a genre that’s poorly served on streaming platforms other than Apple TV.

If you’re willing to pay twice as much for the definitive version of Rio Grande, Eureka in the UK this year released a Masters of Cinema edition with impressive specs and extras, including separate commentaries by Maureen O’Hara and film historian Stephen Prince.

Also being re-issued this week on Blu-ray are Desperado and Clue.
