New to Blu: August 2 – 8

Fast & Furious fans can get their latest fix on both Blu-ray and 4K-UHD, with The Fate of the Furious being released on both formats as well as in a box set of the eight moves in the franchise.

“The UHD version is the go-to visual experience disc for this blockbuster,” Home Theater Forum said.

“The Cuba sequences are insanely colourful and vibrant with saturation levels as rich and deep as possible without blooming.”

High-Def Digest called it “a stunningly gorgeous, demo-worthy HEVC H.265 encode in Dolby Vision” while Blu-ray.com thought the DTS:X Master Audio soundtrack “rock-solid, aggressive and full-bodied”.

The same sites also acclaimed the Blu-ray for its “top-tier” and “reference quality” video.

Annoyingly, an extended cut with an extra 13 minutes of footage is included only as a digital copy that has to be unlocked with a code to view.

The week’s only other new release is Going in Style.

“This film looks terrific on Blu-ray disc and features glossy high definition video quality that exhibit high level detail, refining sharpness and pleasing definition that brings out the lifelike textures captured by the camera’s lens,” AVSForum said.

Looks and sounds great,” AVNirvana concurred. “I really can’t see any negatives to the package besides some minimalistic extras.”
