New to Blu: August 23 – 29
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 blasts on to 4K-UHD, Blu-ray and 3D Blu-ray this week.
“The digitally photographed and heavily digitally supplemented Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 arrives on Blu-ray with a super clean, richly textured, and abundantly colourful 1080p transfer,” Blu-ray.com said.
“The UHD disc offers reference quality picture and Dolby Atmos sound for the all-around best home theater experience available for the movie,” Home Theater Forum said.
Concurred AVSForum: “With a discernible increase in detail and emboldened chromatic highlights the image appears sharper and vibrant when compared to the 1080p version.”
Their Finest “is a typically glossy and well detailed looking presentation, though one that suffers from occasional ‘digital murk’ in darker environments,” Blu-ray.com said.
AVSForum echoed this assessment: “The digitally shot production looks suitably impressive, although lacking a certain finesse which we’ve come to expect from modern productions because it’s been retrofitted with a certain period wash that sets the stage but isn’t always conducive towards razor-sharp detailing.”
Unforgettable “reproduces the richly textured production design of the film’s lavish sets and locations with superior sharpness, detail and contrast”, Blu-ray.com said while reporting The Devil’s Backbone was “sourced from the same restored 2K master that Criterion produced under the supervision of Guillermo del Toro and cinematographer Guillermo Navarro and transferred to Blu-ray in 2013.
“So all of the substantial improvements in terms of depth, clarity and fluidity are present on this release.”
