119529502The Longest Ride

The Longest Ride arrives on Blu-ray with a stunning 1080p MPEG-4 AVC encoded image. The high definition imagery is sleekly produced with great modern production aesthetics.

“This is an amazing looking film and a wonderful release with great colour reproduction and clarity.”

“This release comes with an excellent lossless DTS-HD MA 7.1 audio mix. This isn’t a movie with constant action, but when the scenes where the bull riding is center stage, you will feel total immersion inside the rodeo.”

Hot Tub Time Machine 2

“Shot digitally, the freshly-minted transfer displays excellent detailing … However, contrast largely feels uninspired and muted, making for a noticeably flat and lackluster picture, though whites remain bright and sparkling.”

“As with the visuals, there’s a lot going on in the DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track, with strong music, an active soundfield that keeps the surrounds busy with atmospheric sound and well-placed effects, while the crisp, clean dialogue maintains solid separation from the rest of the audio.”

Kidnapping Me Heineken

Kidnapping Mr. Heineken features a dull, uninspired 1080p transfer. The image is drained and flat, with unnecessarily bright and fatigued black levels and a general lack of vitality to its palette.”

“The bland, flat appearance mirrors the setting, but fine-object detail is readily apparent. Colours are muted but nicely saturated, and skin tones appear natural.”

“The Region A version includes some deleted scenes and a TrueHD track instead of the DTS one we have locally. Region A wins.”

“Filmed using Red Cameras, the detail in the print is impressive … The colours have been manipulated: in the exterior scenes which start and end the film colours have been washed out giving an overbright, teal tinted, look. The rest of the film is in monochrome greys with no bright colours.”

“With no extras on the BD-25, the 92-minute film achieves an average bitrate of 25.99 Mbps, which is certainly adequate for a digitally originated film and ensures an accurate and error-free image.”

The Houses October Built

“Has been edited together with deliberate interruptions, breakups and down-rezzing of some scenes for effect.

“The result is a typical ‘found footage’ presentation that is almost certainly faithful to the source but will not be anyone’s idea of a demonstration disc for showing off their system to visitors.

THOB‘s 5.1 soundtrack, encoded in lossless DTS-HD MA, doesn’t break the illusion that we’re watching an amateur video recording, but it uses the full dynamic range of a professional mixing console.”
