New to Blu: February 15 – 21
The Accountant is the latest new release not to get 4K-UHD Blu-ray distribution in this market.
But fans of the movie should be satisfied with what High-Def Digest calls “a first-rate, near-reference quality 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 encode, showing lots of clarity and definition in Seamus McGarvey’s interestingly stylised photography”.
It also noted the 4K-UHD transfer “disappointingly misses the mark, failing to really show much of an improvement over its Blu-ray counterpart.”
Blu-ray.com concurred it “looks very much the same on both Blu-ray and UHD … Regardless of whether it’s presented in SDR or HDR, The Accountant‘s subdued and monochromatic palette doesn’t lend itself to ‘pop’.”
Even so, it’s troubling and frustrating that titles like this continue to be released on 4K-UHD in Australia but not here.
The Blu-ray also earned high praise for its audio from DVD Talk.
“The 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio mix is effective, with clear, expertly balanced dialogue that is layered amid a pleasing score and some occasionally pounding action effects.
“Ambient effects like crowd noise and wind surround the viewer and never distract from the dialogue.”
Also new are Girl Sleeping, season three of Z Nation, Prison School: Complete Series and Def Leppard: And There Will Be A Next Time … – Live From Detroit.

I wonder if lack of UHD release reflects poor sales here? For many, BD is more than good enough as the gap between UHD and BD is much smaller than the improvement wrought when BD replaced DVD.
