New to Blu: July 15 – 21

The controversial political satire The Hunt is this week’s sole Blu-ray release — and US reviews suggest it’s worth searching out for its technical merits.

The Hunt stalks its way to a 1080p HD transfer on Blu-ray in a 2.39:1 aspect ratio with some excellent detail and a gory colour palette that should satisfy genre fans,” High-Def Digest says.

“[It] comes a fantastic and lively lossless DTS-HD MA 7.1 audio track that is highly engaging and chaotic.”

Concurred Blu-ray Authority: “The film’s entire colour palette is a bit muted, save for the spray of red (blood) that we see … often.  That said, there are a few segments with a decidedly warm colour palette.

“Other scenes are rather cold and corporate, but considering the subject matter of them, it makes sense. Detail is sharp, flesh tones natural. It’s a good-looking image that’s sure to please.”

While rating the picture quality 4.4/5, Blu-ray.com pointed out “Universal has encoded the feature at a mean video bitrate of 27268 kbps”.
