New to Blu: July 20 – 26

Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice may still be a downer, even in its new extended version that pushes the running time past three hours. But the Blu-ray for the new Ultimate Edition is the best thing about it.”

That’s the Toronto Sun’s verdict on one of the year’s biggest releases, which is out this week in extended, 3D and 4K editions.

“The extra footage adds nothing to the Batman/Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) side of things,” the Sun says. “But it dramatically fleshes out the Superman/Clark Kent (Henry Cavill) side, turning his existential crisis into a humanistic drama with emotional depth.”

The two hours of extras don’t include a commentary, which Forbes argued “makes sense from a corporate standpoint”, but nonetheless are “a hefty package that should whet fans’ appetites for the DC movies to come”, Home Media Magazine reckons.
