New to Blu: July 21 – August 11

Fans of Jerry Lewis can binge on a Blu-ray bonanza of some of the movies that made him the comedy king of his era.

Among the budget releases are several Blu-ray firsts, including Dean Martin double-acts The Stooge, My Friend Irma Goes West, Hollywood or Bust, Artists and Models and Who Was That Lady?.

The Hollywood Gold slate also boasts sole vehicles for Lewis and Martin as well as two in which each co-stars with Tony Curtis.

Also new are the 1974 Burt Reynolds classic The Longest Yard and the sci-fi/horror, Vivarium, while exclusive to JB Hi-Fi is HBO’s Watchmen.

Despite being finished on a 4K digital intermediate from 3.5k digital elements, Watchmen hasn’t been accorded the same 4K-UHD respect as HBO’s Westworld and Game of Thrones.

“From start to finish each episode enjoys a terrific transfer,” High-Def Digest says.

“The only way this could look any better is if Warner Brothers would offer up a true 4K UHD experience with HDR.”

Nothing else is scheduled for release on Blu-ray until August 12.
