New to Blu: July 8 – 15
The impact of COVID-19 disruption on theatrical and home video schedules continues with a paucity of new Blu-ray releases this month that looks set to extend through to September.
This week’s are limited to a remastered box set of The Outer Limits, a Twilight Zone wannabe of the early ’60, the postponed The War of the Worlds, Adventure Time: Complete Collection and seven anime newcomers.
The 11-disc sci-fi set includes all 49 episodes from the 1963-65 series, along with 40 audio commentaries, interviews, alternative cuts of two episodes, and other extras.
In the US, the series was released two years ago in separate seasons but the box set boasts additional commentaries and an audio essay by historian Tim Lucas.
Slant magazine called S1 a “beautiful, painstakingly contextualised restoration of a genre” and High-Def Digest praised the S1 release for its “beautiful video transfers and cracking good audio mixes”, so hopefully the same masters have been used for the Via Vision box set.
New on the anime front are:
- One Piece: Stampede
- Wise Man’s Grandchild – Season 1
- Fire Force: Season 1 – Part 1
- The Promised Neverland – Complete Season 1
- Anne of Green Gables
- Robihachi – The Complete Series
- Eureka Seven: Hi-Evolution – Anemone.

I notice on Mighty Ape The Outer Limits is $160. WOW, must be made of gold 🙂
Yes, for collectors only at this stage, Trevor, but buyers do get 11 discs with 49 episodes and more than 37 hours of content. No doubt the price will fall and chances are the series eventually will be released here in separate volumes.
That’s what happened with The Twilight Zone, I got the Blu-ray boxset from Amazon 🙂
