New to Blu: July Highlights

The Iraq War thrillers, The Hurt Locker and Green Zone, rank high among July’s Blu-ray must-sees.

The Hurt Locker, which goes on sale on July 28, blitzed this year’s Oscars — it won six, including best picture — while Green Zone, which reunites Bourne identities Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass, comes out a week earlier.

The month kicks off with the Walt Disney classic, Dumbo, Hollywood Mad Hatter Tim Burton’s take on Alice in Wonderland, and the original Karate Kid and its sequel, which have been timed to coincide with the theatrical release of the re-make starring Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith.

The five Rocky movies also will make a comeback in HD, on July 7, along with PreciousDoctor Who: Season 5, Volume 1, Supernatural: Season 4, Pushing Daisies: Season 2, Mao’s Last Dancer, Predator: The Ultimate Hunter Edition, Predator Dual Pack, Love Happens and the direct-to-video Double Identity, The New Daughter, Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant and XII/Dark Ride double-bill.

Luc Besson’s The Big Blue and Atlantis splash down on July 8, and Law Abiding Citizen, Daybreakers, The Men Who Stare at Goats and Remember Me on July 14.

A week later the movie that won Jeff Bridges his first Oscar, Crazy Heart, bows, along with the less distinguished Valentine’s Day, The Boys are Back and Youth in Revolt.

Also lined up for July are In the Loop, Saturday Night & Sunday Morning, The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner, Forever Strong, Bran Nue Dae, Claymore Collection, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Collection 1, Eps 1-13, Ironman Armored Adventures Boxset, and WWE: The Best PPV Matches of the Year.
