New to Blu: June 23 – 29

Danish drama Another Round is the only new theatrical release on Blu-ray in a week otherwise distinguished by B-grade blasts from the past.

“The AVC encoded image (2.00:1 aspect ratio) presentation preserves the warmer look of Another Round, which favours natural light and dimly lit domestic interiors, giving the feature an appealing glow at times,” Blu-ray.com said.

“Dialogue exchanges are distinct during the 5.1 DTS-HD MA sound mix, supporting emotional performances that range from hushed confessions to rowdier drunken conversations.”

Leading the raft of catalogue titles are the 1956 Burt Lancaster-Katharine Hepburn classic, The Rainmaker, and the 1968 Chuck Connors spaghetti western gem, Kill Them All and Come Back Alone.

The latter is a Studiocanal transfer that hopefully uses the same 4K master as the Kino Lorber release in the US, which High-Def Digest praised as “a pristine Blu-ray  …

“The only way this often jaw-dropping gorgeous 2.35:1 1080p transfer could look any better is fully uncompressed with HDR. As it is – this is a damn beautiful near-flawless presentation.”

Also out are re-issues of the horror hoots Black Water and Slither, and the double-bill novelty of 13 Ghosts (1960) and Thir13en Ghosts (2001).
