New to Blu: June 30-July 6
Forget the faux 3D effects of the theatrical release – owners of HD looking glasses would be mad as a hatter not to buy Alice in Wonderland on Blu-ray.
Tim Burton’s take on the Lewis Carroll classic has earned five-star raves for its HD video from such sites as Hi-Def Digest, DVD Authority and Blu-ray.com.
Home Theatre Forum was a tad more reserved, awarding it four out of five stars: “The real-world sequences which open and close the film are the transfer’s weak link with either overly brown or overly blue tinting softening and thus lessening some of the impact of the visuals. Once the adventures begin in Underland, however, the sharpness and colour depth and detail are really impressive.”
Also new on Blu-ray from Wednesday are the 70th edition of Walt Disney’s Dumbo, the Harry Potter pretender, Percy Jackson & the Lightning Thief (which comes with a digital copy), the first two Karate Kid movies, and Daredevil while for sale from Monday is the football drama, Forever Strong.
