New to Blu: June 9-15
Close encounters of the furred kind don’t come loonier than The Wolfman.
The dark re-make of the 1941 original earned mixed reviews in its theatrical release but its reincarnation on Blu-ray looks awesome.
As well as a director’s cut that’s 17 minutes longer, it includes nearly an hour of HD behind-the-screams shorts, five deleted and extended scenes, two picture-in-picture tracks and the facility to stream Lon Chaney Jr’s Wolf Man.
It goes on sale on Wednesday, a day after such less distinguished HD horror fare as I Sell the Dead, Carriers and Open Graves/100 Feet, and a couple of other critters to cherish: Fantastic Mr Fox and The Princess and the Frog.
Also new are the true-life dramatisations, Invictus and Balibo, and a slew of movies already out on DVD: Samson & Delilah, Map of the Human Heart, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, Poseidon and Presumed Innocent.
Going straight to Blu-ray are An Empress and the Warriors, Ninja Assassin, The Black Balloon, and The Private Lives of Pippa Lee, along with the music titles, Henry Purcell: The Fairy Queen and Porcupine Tree: Anesthetize.
Also due this week (and not last week, as inexplicably stated in New to Blu: June 2-8) are: Mad Men: The Complete Third Season, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, The Mask of Zorro, Snatch and The Craft.
