New to Blu: June Highlights

Mad men, passionate poets and hi-def horrors dominate June’s bumper Blu-ray slate.

More than three-dozen HD titles will be released, with four TV shows ranking among the most keenly awaited: seasons three of Heroes and Mad Men, Doctor Who 2008 Christmas Special: The Next Doctor and Top Gear 3: Great Adventures South America, Romania and Bonneville.

Two outstanding Australian movies will make their Blu-ray bows, Samson & Delilah and Balibo, along with Jane Campion’s Bright Star and the latest from one of Hollywood’s brightest stars, George Clooney, Up in the Air.

Stars of 20 years ago also figure heavily, from Arnold Schwarzenegger (Raw Deal, Red Heat, Red Sonja) to Sylvester Stallone (Over the Top) to Jean-Claude Van Damme (Universal Soldier).

Also being dusted off from the ‘80s are Out of Africa and Angel Heart, while coinciding with Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island is the director’s 1997 Dalai Lama biography, Kundun.

Horror diehards can choose from Zomebieland, The Wolfman, Carriers, I Sell the Dead and Open Graves while ‘toon nuts are equally spoiled for choice: Toy Story and its sequel, Fantastic Mr Fox, The Princess and the Frog, and Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakuel.

Also new to Blu next month are Invictus, Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief, Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, The Private Lives of Pippa Lee, Tooth Fairy, The Craft, Mask Of Zorro, Snatch, An Empress and the Warriors, Ninja Assassin and WWE WrestleMania XXVI.
