New to Blu: March 3 – 9

After several weeks of sparing and uninspiring releases, the Blu-ray slate bounces back with another stunning selection of vintage Imprint titles, the highlight being the sensational Kurt Russell thriller, Breakdown.

It features a 1080p transfer sourced from a new 4K scan by Paramount Pictures, commentary by critic Peter Tonguette, visual essay Life Is a Jeep, interviews with film critic Tim Robey and stuntman James Arnett, and a making-of short.

The Apostle also has been mastered from a new 4K scan and comes with even more comprehensive extras: separate commentaries by director/writer/producer/star Robert Duvall and critic Peter Tonguette, visual essay Mystery of Faith: The Flawed Hero of The Apostle, The Journey of the Apostle featurette, vintage short MCA Records Soundtrack Presentation, and “I Will Not Go Quietly” music video.

Also bearing the Imprint imprimatur are:

  • The Bad News Bears, with a commentary by film historian Scott Harrison
  • The Bridges at Toko-Rio, with a commentary by film historian Alan K Rode
  • Black Sunday, with a commentary by film historian Stephen Prince
  • Five, with commentary by film historians Glenn Erickson and Matthew Rovner, and an interview with Kim Newman.

And the good news doesn’t end there for movie buffs.

The first batch of limited edition Imprint titles is being re-issued on standard Blu-ray without slipcases but with the same extensive extras for $25 instead of the original $35: Sorry, Wrong Number, I Married a Monster From Outer Space, Waterloo, The War of the Worlds and The Duellists.

The week’s new releases are limited to FatmanVanguard and the anime titles:

  • Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba: Part 2
  • One Punch Man: The Complete Season 2
  • Violet Evergarden I: Eternity And The Auto Memory Doll
  • Black Clover: Complete Season 2
  • Dr Stone: Season 1 – Part 2.

Finally The Duellists! One of Ridley Scott’s best films, second only to Blade Runner.Hopefully it will come with some decent extras.

  2. Yes, thx1138, it’s an excellent movie and the extras are pretty good: two commentaries (one by Scott, the other by composer Howard Blake), a vintage interview with star Keith Carradine, and a conversations about salient aspects of the movie between Scott and fellow director Kevin Reynolds. The Duellists first came out last year in limited edition packaging; the re-release is in standard Blu-ray packaging with the same extras.

  3. Great, I missed it the first time around, one of the few films I’d spend money on 🙂
