New to Blu: May 24 – 30

xXx: The Return of Xander Cage is being uncaged on 4K-UHD and 3D Blu-ray the same week Kiwi re-make Pork Pie hits the Blu-ray road.

Also new on 4K-UHD and Blu-ray is Fifty Shades Darker while the original, Fifty Shades of Grey, is being re-issued on 4K-UHD and in a double-pack with its sequel.

“Paramount’s UHD delivers good, upscaled 4K video, reference Atmos audio, and a decent array of bonus content,” Blu-ray.com said of the xXx sequel.

“This isn’t a monster upgrade from the Blu-ray, but the differences are enough that 4K fans may as well splurge on this version.”

As for the “rather fun 3D presentation”, Blu-ray.com said it “offers everything in good working order, a harmonious balance of depth and quality of presentation that makes this, arguably, the best way to watch the movie between the three releases.”

Fifty Shades Darker takes a giant leap up the 4K chain with this 2160p HDR presentation,” said High-Def Digest, which thought the 1080p transfer “terrific“.

“With HDR, the image is given a full range of colours. Flesh tones deepen slightly and look much more healthy and lifelike. Primaries have a terrific amount of pop and natural presence and the infamous Red Room looks amazing.”
